We recently shared with you the robbery that happened on Halloween night on Morningside where a man robbed a woman at gunpoint in her driveway as she was coming home. We have had another similar incident on Mercedes on Saturday night.

This one happened on Saturday evening around 7:30pm in the 5800 block of Mercedes. A woman was arriving home and pulled into her front entry driveway. There was a robbery in the 6000 block of Morningside late in the night on Thursday (Halloween). The suspect held the resident at gunpoint in her driveway and made off with her purse and cell phone. The suspect is described as a black male about 5’10” last seen wearing a cap and a cloth over his face with a dark shirt and dark pants. The incident occurred at about 2:40am as the victim was returning home. Despite the murder that was widely publicized, August was a great month with one of the lowest number of incidents we’ve ever seen. We are still seeing a fair number of car break ins. Most of the car break-ins this month involved the smash and grab type which usually results in more repair damage than the value of the property stolen. There were three incidents that happened in driveways, two were unlocked vehicles. One was a bike left out on the rack. The rest occurred in the street or parking lots. The numbers are up a little this month. The Central Division is currently seeing a increase in crime numbers over what the other areas are seeing. Most of that is coming from outside our neighborhood, but we are seeing some increases as well. Our area is up this month in thefts and break-ins but still within the range of normal for us. We keep getting a little better every month on the numbers. For the first time ever, one of our reporting areas went an entire month with NO SERIOUS INCIDENTS. Congrats to the folks in the Belmont Addition CD on keeping it safe! We had only one burglary in the neighborhood this month, way below normal and 9 car break-ins also a little below normal.
