July 2013 Crime Report

The numbers are up a little this month. The Central Division is currently seeing a increase in crime numbers over what the other areas are seeing. Most of that is coming from outside our neighborhood, but we are seeing some increases as well. Our area is up this month in thefts and break-ins but still within the range of normal for us. June 2013 Crime Report

We keep getting a little better every month on the numbers. For the first time ever, one of our reporting areas went an entire month with NO SERIOUS INCIDENTS. Congrats to the folks in the Belmont Addition CD on keeping it safe! We had only one burglary in the neighborhood this month, way below normal and 9 car break-ins also a little below normal. Cast Iron Gas Pipes Cause Concerns

Thanks to Brad Shipp of WFAA and his research into the use of cast iron gas pipes in Dallas, we now know that East Dallas, including all of Wilshire Heights and a number of surrounding neighborhoods, are part of the area where cast iron pipes were originally installed years ago. At the time of installation, they met code; however, further analysis has shown they have become brittle and prone to cracking and leaks. In fact, these pipes have been known to cause explosions and other very serious incidents.

Due to the seriousness of the situation, Wilshire Heights Neighborhood Association is organizing concerned neighbors to place calls to ATMOS Energy asking what their plan is to replace these dangerous pipes.
