May 2011 Meeting Recap and Crime Watch Report

Last night’s LGNA meeting lasted a little longer than usual. Anytime Crime is the topic, the questions and concerns can go on for a while.

The meeting began with our “annual meeting”, a formality of our by-laws where we elect members to the board. Three minutes later, we turned the floor over to Lt. Albert Martinez of the Dallas Police. Lt. Martinez provided a pile of crime prevention literature and spoke about some of the things that make our neighborhood a target, such as dimly lit streets and excessive street parking.

Following Lt. Martinez, LGNA Crime Watch coordinator Darren Dattalo presented a report with a summary of crime reports for the last 6 years. You can download a pdf of the report here:

LGNA 2011 Crime Watch Update

April 2011 Crime Report

The crime reports for April are below. We were running about average for the month, but way below the level of crime this month last year. Spring is usually prime time for thieves and burglars so its good to see we’re doing better than last year. But please don’t let your guard down, there are still bad guys that target our area, so as tempting as it may be to leave your doors and windows open on a nice spring day, be aware that these guys will still take advantage of the opportunity, even if you are at home. March 2011 Crime Report

Crime reports for March are below. Please read the story about the robberies on Prospect, especially if you live in that area. Generally speaking we were about average on our crime reports for the month. The total incidents appears a little higher due to several “non-crime” reports. (Cars reported stolen that had actually been lost or towed, etc.) However, spring is upon us and the bad guys will be coming out again for the summer. Continue reading “March 2011 Crime Report”

February 2011 Crime Reports

The crime reports for February are below. With a several snow days and a short month, the numbers are very low. I expect these numbers to go up as Spring approaches. We did see a small jump in the number of auto thefts. Nothing compared to the numbers we used to see a couple of years ago, but a few more than normal for the last two years. Speaking of cars, you’ll see one incident where a thief was laid out under a car trying to saw off a muffler when a resident saw him and chased him off. These incidents are rare, but they are usually the work of a crew that specializes in this sort of thing. Be on the lookout. You’ll also notice the rape that occurred below. This was an acquaintance situation that occurred at a private Super Bowl party. There is a known suspect. Continue reading “February 2011 Crime Reports”

January 2011 Crime Reports

We’re on a roll, four months in a row of below average crime reports! We’re down in most categories, but car break-ins continue to persist. The sad thing is that most of the car break-ins could be prevented. Each month when I get the crime stats, our ENP officer details each one listing just how many incidents involved cars (and sometimes homes) that were left unlocked or open with valuables in plain sight.
