February 2012 Crime Reports

Last year, February was a good month for us, it was the lowest number of crime incidents in years with 35 incidents. This year, February was even better to us, with only 20 incidents. (See below) That’s with no ice storms and an extra day thrown in for leap year. That’s a record shattering great month for our residents, with only 7 total incidents across our 2500+ households. In fact it took me a little longer to get this report out this month, because I was certain there was a mistake in the data. But after triple checking everything, we were right on. According to Officer Keith, this was unique to our LGNA neighborhood. He tells me the number of crime incidents were actually slightly up in adjacent neighborhoods. Next month is yet to be seen, but let’s keep looking out for each other and keep this trend going!  Continue reading “February 2012 Crime Reports”

St. Pat’s Event Coming March 17th

In an effort to quell the impact of tens of thousands of St. Patrick’s party-goers descending upon Lower Greenville residential neighborhoods on March 17, the Lower Greenville Neighborhood Association has been working since October with event organizers, City departments, and other neighborhood associations to achieve significant results.

No-parking signs will be placed on parkways Thursday evening (24 hours prior to the event), but parking restriction does not go into effect until Saturday morning. A note to residents: Remove your car from the side of the street with signs before Saturday morning, March 17, and tell your neighbors to do the same. Cars parked in violation of the no-parking plan will be towed. There will be no exception for residents.

Working with the city, LGNA delivered an information sheet and a detailed map of the parking restrictions to all residents in the LGNA area. Click on either of the images below for more information.

January 2012 Crime Report

After a string of several below average crime months, we popped back up to the typical level this month. Some of this came from a string of assaults around Kinki’s and NSL, five this month alone. On violent crime, two were family violence situations, but the other two were a robbery in the parking lot of the Turtle Dove apartments and a car-jacking in the Billiard Bar parking lot. (See story below)  We’re also seeing a slow increase in the number of auto thefts. One was stolen right out of a driveway on Ellsworth this month. Over the couple of years, we had slowed to a small trickle with many months having no auto thefts at all. But lately, we’ve been seeing them more consistently. This is not been a dramatic increase, but something to keep our eyes on. Please keep reporting suspicious vehicles and suspicious persons to 911. Continue reading “January 2012 Crime Report”

Trader Joe’s Coming to Lowest Greenville

Who would have thought the hottest commodity in East Dallas would be a grocery store? For months, the good folks in Lake Highlands waged a seriously coordinated campaign to get Trader Joe’s to open in the new and coming Lake Highlands Town Center. That would be a great location for them, but Joe & Co passed for now in favor of a couple other more developed locations. Simultaneously, Madison Partners (the real estate company which owns the old Arcadia site) has been busy promoting its new “Arcadia Park” concept. The idea was to have a handful of permanently mounted food trucks sharing some common facilities. Officials at the City of Dallas worked for months on creating zoning standards to create this type of facility. They were afraid that similar developments would pop up all over the city without proper zoning being addressed. Just before New Year’s day, word came down that instead of the food truck facility, Madison had landed Trader Joe’s as a tenant on the Arcadia site.
