Annual Cookie Drive Expands This Year

Saturday, December 17, brings an opportunity to boost your holiday spirit.  Once again LGNA will be collecting Christmas goodies for the firefighters at Station 17.  It’s our way of saying “Thanks for watching out for us.”  Bring your cookies, brownies, or any other holiday treats – either homemade or purchased – to 5843 Vanderbilt between 10am and 2pm.  We’ll assemble a basket for each of the three shifts and deliver the baskets that weekend. Concerns about Coyotes

Many of our members have expressed concern about the sightings of wild animals such as coyotes and foxes and reports of pet mutilations in our area.  This photo of a pair of foxes was taken in the alley behind the 5100 block of Vanderbilt.

Greenland Hills Neighborhood Association has extended an invitation to a joint meeting on Tuesday, December 13, at 7:00 p.m. at Unity Church on Greenville @ McCommas.  The speaker from 911wildlife.com will give information about ways to eliminate foxes and coyotes and how to keep pets safe.  Vickery Place NA and Wilshire Heights NA have also been invited. Parking is limited, so allow yourself a little extra time.

National Night Out 2011 – Don’t Miss it!

Last year’s event was huge, with the biggest turn out yet! We’ve been working hard to make sure this year’s event is just as fun. National Night Out is designed to strengthen community relationship between residents and public service organizations such as police, city departments and charitable organizations that serve the community. Approximately 5,000 households are represented by the Neighborhood Associations that host the event, and our event generates 700+ attendees each year. The date for this year’s event will be Tuesday, October 4, 2011, from 5:30-8:30 pm, once again at Tietze Park. Continue reading “National Night Out 2011 – Don’t Miss it!”

15th Annual Long Run

Come join J.L. Long Middle School students, staff and parents for the 15th Annual Long Run. As the only fundraiser sponsored by the J.L. Long Middle School PTA, it is also one of the oldest and most established certified 5K runs in East Dallas. Proceeds are targeted to bridge critical gaps in the J.L. Long Middle School budget.

The 15th Annual Long Run offers runners a winding and challenging course that takes runners through the picturesque, tree-lined streets of Hollywood Heights in historic old East Dallas. The Start/Finish and after race activities will be in front of J.L. Long Middle School at 6116 Reiger Avenue, Dallas, TX 75214.
