Hello Neighbors,
THANK YOU for your extremely generous support of our year-end GoFundMe Campaigns for Fire Station 17 and our local elementary schools. Together, we provided $1,800 in support to our local fire station and $750 to the Peace Pantries of our elementary schools.

ST. PAT’S IS COMING . . . VOLUNTEER TO POST NO-PARKING SIGNS

Whether you look forward to the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade (Saturday March 14) on Greenville, or dread it, one of the most effective ways to make it a reasonable day for all is to help LGNA post No-Parking signs in the neighborhood. We’ll be posting pre-assembled signs beginning Thursday, March 12, starting at 3:00 p.m. SIGN UP ON OUR VOLUNTEER FORM to lend a hand. Meet your neighbors and help maintain order throughout the event. Signs and a route assignment can be picked up as early as March 7.

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR: EAT ICE CREAM
Sometimes, you have to step up and do the work to make your community great. This is one of those times! Tuesday, March 17, from 2-5 p.m. stop by Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams at 2012 Greenville Avenue when 25% of all proceeds will be donated to LGNA! You’ll enjoy an amazing treat and your neighborhood will receive financial support to host Happy Hours and other special events, print two newsletters per year, and cover costs related to electronic communication.

Enjoy a unique and fun night out Friday, March 27, with a special LGNA event at Four Day Weekend Theater at 5601 Sears Street. The evening starts with an LGNA-only Happy Hour with Four Day Weekend from 6-7 p.m. with complimentary light bites and drinks for purchase. Then enjoy a live improv show at 8 p.m. featuring the comedy genius of a troupe that has performed in Fort Worth for more than 25 years — and here in Lower Greenville for more than five. RESERVE TICKETS for just $30 (must have a ticket to attend pre-show Happy Hour).

SWING DANCE LESSON AND PARTY
Right down the street at 2714 Greenville Avenue, Rhythm Room Dance Studio is hopping and bopping with world-class instructors teaching total beginners (and more experienced folks) to swing dance. Now it’s your turn! For just $15 per person (no partner needed), on Thursday, April 9 from 6-8:00 p.m. you can enjoy an expert dance lesson, complimentary light bites and wine, and then one hour to practice your moves while you socialize with new friends. REPORTING BOTH HOMELESSNESS AND CRIME HELPS TARGET RESOURCES TO OUR COMMUNITY
At a recent town hall for District 14 residents hosted by City Councilperson Paul Ridley and Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux, the impact of homelessness on our neighborhood was a major topic of discussion. City leadership acknowledged that what we’re seeing here is largely tied to displacement following recent downtown clean-up efforts. As downtown areas were cleared, individuals relocated to other areas, including Lower Greenville.

City staff are becoming more aware of the impact we’re seeing in our community, but we need to keep this issue top of mind for them. One of the most important ways to do that is to consistently report homeless encampments, fires, unsafe conditions, blocked sidewalks, or crime-related activity to 311. The same is true for any crime, even petty crime, and should be reported to 911 or via the Dallas 311 app or phone.

City officials emphasized that consistent reporting is what will get the attention and resources we need to address these issues.

We are indeed a compassionate community, but giving directly to homeless individuals is not the solution and can unintentionally hinder their connection to professional services and more permanent solutions. Let’s all commit to not providing individual assistance and instead reach out to community resources.
