A list of all the White Rock Marathon participants from our neighborhood is not possible, but here are kudos to two LGNA volunteers who ran the full marathon. Newsletter Coordinator Diane Evans ran an excellent time of 4:36:49 and finished #2113 overall. Board member Alan Schonborn ran 3:35:03 and placed an astounding #347 overall. Good work!

LGNA Fajita Fiesta 2008!
LGNA’s July meeting has traditionally a covered-dish dinner to allow neighbors a relaxed venue for getting to know each other. But this year, we decided to change things up. Thanks to our good friend Matt Mortimer at the Blue Goose, we had a fajita party this year. Blue Goose provided us with fajitas, tortillas, chips, rice and beans. And as if that wasn’t enough, he brought some tasty sopapillas too! In keeping with the fiesta theme, we had a dips/salsa contest with prizes coutesy of Blue Goose. In addition to 12 salsa entries, dozens of tasty side dishes and dessert graced the tables.
About 60 people showed up to catch up with their neighbors and make new friends. Special guests included Neil Emmons, District 14 Planning Commissioner and Ryan Trimble of Rep. Dan Branch’s office. Officer Chris Dorword of the Dallas Police Department who patrols our neighborhood also joined us with Cadet Brandon Sampson.
Our prize winners in the salsa contest were:
First Place: Neil Emmons (Pictured)
Second Place: Allison Kravetz
Third Place: Rusty Daniel
Friends of the Katy Trail
The Lower Greenville Neighborhood Association’s January meeting featured Betsy Edmond, Associate Director of Friends of the Katy Trail. The Katy Trail is a 3.5-mile pedestrian and bike path which traces the greenbelt along which the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT or “Katy”) Railroad traveled through Dallas. LGNA’s Most Valuable Asset
The Lower Greenville Neighborhood Association has been described as one of the most active neighborhood associations in the city. That activity would not be possible without the scores of volunteers who donate their time and talents to help LGNA thrive.
For example, did you know that each issue of your LGNA newsletter is produced by volunteers? All the articles are written by several volunteers. The professional-looking layout is accomplished by Tim Evans, volunteer extraordinaire. More than 30 volunteers hand-deliver the newsletter to your doorstep six times a year. Neighborhood Alley Clean-Up
Sparked by the initial Crime Watch alley clean-up project, area resident Jim Sorg recently coordinated neighbors to clean the alley in the 5900 block of Belmont.
Almost a dozen folks, young and old, showed up to help remove brush and trash. Other neighbors cleaned up their properties prior to the event in response to the flyers handed out in advance. The event ran from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a few even worked later cleaning up loose ends. Continue reading “Neighborhood Alley Clean-Up”
