St. Patrick’s Events – March 15, 2014

The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and celebration on Lower Greenville will take place this year on Saturday, March 15.

The City has coordinated efforts with the Dallas Police, neighborhood residents, special events office, code, sanitation, parking enforcement, event sponsors, Councilmember Philip Kingston, and others to limit the impact of these events on our Lower Greenville neighborhoods.

Frequently asked questions have been answered by the City on this document and Philip Kingston has put together an Informational Flyer with additional details.

The streets most directly affected by the parking restrictions, street closings, and so forth, can be seen on this map.

Cast Iron Gas Pipes Cause Concerns

Thanks to Brad Shipp of WFAA and his research into the use of cast iron gas pipes in Dallas, we now know that East Dallas, including all of Wilshire Heights and a number of surrounding neighborhoods, are part of the area where cast iron pipes were originally installed years ago. At the time of installation, they met code; however, further analysis has shown they have become brittle and prone to cracking and leaks. In fact, these pipes have been known to cause explosions and other very serious incidents.

Due to the seriousness of the situation, Wilshire Heights Neighborhood Association is organizing concerned neighbors to place calls to ATMOS Energy asking what their plan is to replace these dangerous pipes.

Please see the link below to the WFAA news story and map showing (as of 2009) where problems have been reported:
