LGNA Toys for Cops Meet and Greet – August 18

Start gathering your gently used stuffed toys!

DPD Central Patrol is again in need of gently used stuffed toys for officers to carry for distressed children, and the Lower Greenville Neighborhood Association will again collect Toys for Cops.

For the eighth year, LGNA is collecting gently used stuffed toys for the Dallas Police Department’s Central Patrol. We’re told by officers that LGNA is the only organized toy-collection effort in the division, so your donations are particularly needed.

Dallas Police Department patrol cars carry stuffed toys for distribution to children who are distressed by traumatic events such as domestic violence or traffic accidents. LGNA-area residents are particularly generous at Christmastime, but DPD’s Central Patrol distributes close to 500 toys per year. We try to supplement the December collection with a second collection at mid-year.

The LGNA Toys for Cops campaign has provided over 2,000 toys during its eight years of collecting.

Area neighbors have been generous with donating garage-sale leftovers to the campaign, and many residents regularly shop thrift stores. But the greatest number of toys come from closet- and shelf-cleanouts. All your generosity is appreciated.

Please clean out your closets for a win-win result – cleaner closets and happier kids. The toys don’t have to be large or collectable. Large toys are great, but all that’s needed is a small toy that can be cuddled by a frightened child.

Locations and specific times will be published soon. If you can’t make the event on August 18, drop-off locations will be set up before and after that date. And if you don’t see the info on Nextdoor, check www.LGNA.netcloser to the date for the latest info.
